Conductor Sol Chin, a visionary artist of boundless ambition, made her debut after graduating from the Korea National University of Arts and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany, captivating audiences worldwide with her unparalleled command of orchestras. In Korea, she has collaborated with prestigious ensembles such as the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, and the National Orchestra of Korea. Renowned for her unrivaled ability to interpret contemporary music, she has been the driving force behind numerous creative projects as a conductor and artistic director, earning a reputation as a true specialist in modern music.
Upon returning to Korea, she founded the artistic organization Artisee, establishing herself as a trailblazer in classical music. From intimate ensembles to grand orchestras, and spanning repertoire from the Renaissance to contemporary music, Artisee presents a remarkable range of timeless classics. With exceptional ambition, she launched the Mahlerian Project, a groundbreaking endeavor to perform the complete symphonies of Gustav Mahler—a first for a private organization in Korea. To date, she has delivered seven out of Mahler's ten symphonies with breathtaking success, igniting anticipation for the final three. Beginning in 2024, she also launched the Artisee Requiem Series, a monumental ten-year journey to present requiems by various composers, promising audiences an annual moment of reflection and comfort.
Beyond classical music, she is a visionary leader in the fusion of various genres of art and culture. As the CEO and artistic director of Flasic, Korea's pioneering platform for video game and subculture music, she has revolutionized the concept of game music concerts. Under her leadership, Flasic has produced cutting-edge performances in collaboration with top game companies while spearheading the IP Clean Campaign, advocating for intellectual property rights in concert production. Her influence extends across media and beyond. She has appeared on programs from major broadcasters such as KBS, SBS, and EBS, and starred in commercials for IBK Bank and Samsung Galaxy. She also served as the classical music consultant and conducting coach for the Korean drama Maestra: Strings of Truth, featuring actress Lee Young-ae.
Internationally, her artistry has been celebrated through collaborations with the Italian ensemble L'appassionata, as well as invitations to conduct the opening and closing concerts of the Palermo International Festival. She has also graced the stages of Vienna's Musikverein and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, solidifying her status as a cultural ambassador for Korea. In her quest to expand the possibilities of interdisciplinary art, she has brought legendary global IPs like Pokémon, Sid Meier's Civilization, StarCraft, and Digimon to life on stage through exclusive collaborations with their international headquarters. Her production Sid Meier’s Civilization Symphony has already made its global debut in Australia, while Ragnarok: The Orchestra has dazzled audiences in Thailand and Taiwan, amplifying the elegance of game music worldwide.
As a former conductor for the Korean National Institute for the Gifted in Arts Orchestra, she is now an adjunct professor at the Korea National University of Arts, the principal conductor of the Daegu International Symphony Orchestra, and the artistic director of Artisee and Mahlerian. Her relentless passion and groundbreaking achievements earned her the 2024 Hong Jin-ki Creativity Award in the Culture and Arts category.
한국예술종합학교와 독일 만하임국립음대를 졸업하고 해외의 수많은 오케스트라를 지휘하며 데뷔했다. 국내에서도 KBS교향악단, 국립심포니오케스트라, 국립국악관현악단 등 여러 오케스트라와 호흡을 맞추었고 뛰어난 현대음악 해석 능력으로 여러 창작 프로젝트에 지휘자 및 예술감독으로 참여하여 현대음악 스페셜리스트로 평가받았다.
귀국 후 비영리 예술단체 ‘아르티제’를 창단하여 앙상블부터 오케스트라까지 다양한 정통 클래식 레퍼토리를 선보이고 있으며, 민간단체 최초로 말러 교향곡 전곡을 연주하는 ‘말러리안’ 프로젝트에 도전 중이다. 말러리안은 현재까지 말러의 교향곡 10곡 중 7곡을 성공적으로 연주해냈고, 남은 3곡에 대해서도 크나큰 기대와 호응을 불러일으키고 있다. 또한 2024년부터는 향후 10여 년에 걸쳐 다양한 작곡가들의 진혼곡을 선보이는 ‘아르티제 레퀴엠 시리즈’를 통해 매년 관객들에게 보내는 위로의 시간을 약속하였다. 한편, 2017년부터 국내 최초의 게임음악 및 서브컬처음악 전문 플랫폼 ‘플래직’의 대표이사이자 예술감독으로서 게임사 및 기관들과의 정식 계약을 통해 게임음악 공연을 기획하고 있으며, 예술 장르 간 융합을 목표로 함과 동시에 한 명의 아티스트이자 예술단체의 대표로서 저작권(IP) 클린 캠페인을 시행하고 있다.
‘세상을 바꾸는 시간 15분’, ‘EBS 다큐프라임’ 등의 방송 프로그램이나 IBK기업은행 광고 출연, 삼성 갤럭시 링 광고모델 및 앰배서더 활동 등 다방면의 활약을 보여주고 있으며, 2023년 12월 첫 방영한 이영애 배우 주연 tvN 드라마 ‘마에스트라’에서 클래식 총괄 자문과 배우 전담 지휘 지도를 맡기도 했다. 또한 이탈리아의 젊은 예술단체 ‘라파시오나타’의 한국 초청을 통한 합동 공연, 이탈리아 팔레르모 국제 페스티벌 개막/폐막 공연 초청 지휘, 빈 무지크페라인 및 암스테르담 콘세르트허바우 초청 공연 등 지속적인 국제적 예술교류를 통해 대한민국의 위상을 드높이고 있다. 클래식뿐만 아니라 융합 예술 장르에서도 국제 교류를 활성화하고자 ‘포켓몬’, ‘시드 마이어의 문명’, ‘스타크래프트’, ‘디지몬’ 등 전세계의 초대형 IP를 각 해외 본사와의 정식 계약을 통해 공연을 직접 제작하여 국내 관객들에게 선보였고, 특히 ‘시드 마이어의 문명’은 호주를 시작으로 꾸준히 여러 국제 무대에서 선보여질 예정이다. 또한 한국에서 전석 매진을 기록하고 태국 및 대만으로 진출한 ‘라그나로크: 디 오케스트라’를 통해 완성도 높은 K-게임음악 콘텐츠의 아름다움을 널리 알렸다.
한국예술영재교육원 오케스트라 지휘자를 역임하고, 현재는 한국예술종합학교 겸임교수와 대구국제방송교향악단 상임지휘자, 클래식 전문 연주단체 ‘아르티제’ 및 ‘말러리안’ 예술감독 등으로서 분야를 가리지 않는 맹활약을 보여주고 있다. 2024년 5월, 문화예술 발전에 기여한 업적을 주목받아 홍진기 창조인상 문화예술부문을 수상하였고, 융합예술 분야의 선도자로서 고등학교 ‘음악과 미디어‘ 교과서에 수록되었다.
