Sol Chin is establishing herself as one of the distinguished young asian conductors, building a reputation for her diverse and enthusiastic performances on various stages.

She was born in Seoul, South Korea. After learning piano and composition from her parents who are music professors in Korea, she studied conducting at the Korea National University of Arts and the Mannheim State University of Music and Performing Arts, Germany. At the time, the German newspaper “Schwäbische” wrote of her; a promising rookie conductor who has an elegant baton technique.

After completing her studies, she started conducting numerous orchestras such as Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz in Germany, State Opera Plovdiv Orchestra in Bulgaria. And in Korea, she conducted KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Korea, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, Bucheon Philharmonic, Daejeon Philharmonic, Pohang Philharmonic and Jeonju Philharmonic. In 2019, she was invited twice by the Eskisehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra, Turkey, for concerts which were sold out completely and got reviews by the local media as ‘an unforgettable festival of sound’. After the concerts, she received an appreciation plaque from the mayor of Eskisehir city.

For many years, she has been demonstrating a prominent ability to conduct and comprehend contemporary music including many concertos for soloists and orchestra. She was invited to conduct the biggest contemporary music festivals in Korea, such as ARKO Korean Contemporary Music Festival, Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival, ACC International Composition Competition, Korean Chamber Music Composition Festival, and so on. Moreover, she is well known as an artistic director and CEO of “FLASIC”, a platform startup specialized in planning and producing game music orchestra concerts. With FLASIC, she is trying to discover new areas of performing arts, through official contracts with many worldwide game companies such as Blizzard Entertainment, NC Soft, Nexon, Kakao Games, Gravity, and Pokemon Korea. Also with FLASIC, she had launched a campaign for copyright protection, to raise awareness of preventing intellectual property right infringement for artists. Along with such achievements, she had been invited to “CBS Sebasi”, one of the most famous TV lecture program in Korea, “EBS Documentary Prime” program, and a TV commercial for the “IBK Industrial Bank”, the fifth largest bank in Korea.

Since 2016, she has been leading the project called “Mahlerian”, which was founded with the goal of performing all of Gustav Mahler’s symphonies. She works for adjunct professor of Korea National Universtiy of Arts, chief conductor of Daegu International Symphony Orchestra, and artistic director of Artisee Orchestra. Recently, she conducted the Berliner Symphoniker at the Terneuzen Festival and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, and Severoceska Filharmonie at the Rudolfinum Dvorak Hall in Prague, Czech. Also, she organized and conducted collaboration concerts between Artisee Orchestra and L’appassionata Chamber Orchestra from Italy, at Seoul Arts Center and Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, Korea.

한국예술종합학교와 독일 만하임국립음대를 졸업하고 독일 바덴바덴 필하모니, 캄머오케스터 하일브론, 남독일 필하모니 콘스탄츠, 불가리아 플로프디프 주립 오페라 오케스트라 등 해외의 수많은 오케스트라를 지휘했다. 이러한 활약을 두고 독일 언론 ‘슈배비쉬(Schwäbische)’지는 “앞으로 꼭 주목해야 할 지휘자이자, 자유로운 지휘봉 놀림을 가진 신예”라고 평하였다. 귀국한 뒤 국내에서 KBS교향악단, 국립심포니오케스트라, 국립국악관현악단, 경기필하모닉, 부천필하모닉, 대전시립교향악단, 포항시립교향악단, 전주시립교향악단 등 여러 오케스트라와 호흡을 맞추었으며, 고전음악 레퍼토리는 물론 뛰어난 현대음악 해석 능력으로 여러 창작 프로젝트 및 창작 오페라 등에 지휘자로 참여하며 현대음악 스페셜리스트로 평가받았다.

국내 최초의 게임음악 전문 플랫폼 ‘플래직’의 대표이사이자 예술감독으로서 블리자드엔터테인먼트, 카카오게임즈, 엔씨소프트, 포켓몬스터 등 국내외 여러 게임사와의 정식 계약을 통해 서브컬처 공연을 기획하고 있으며, 예술 장르 간 융합과 동시에 아티스트로서 저작권(IP) 보호 문화 확산에 기여하고자 저작권 클린 캠페인을 실천하고 있다. 또한 한국콘텐츠진흥원, 게임문화재단, 한국게임산업협회, 지스타, 대한민국국회 등의 공식 기관 행사에 다양한 형태로 자문 및 협력 중이다. ‘CBS 세상을 바꾸는 시간, 15분’, ‘EBS 다큐프라임’, ’한경arteTV Baton’ 등 여러 TV 프로그램과 ‘IBK기업은행‘ 광고 등에 출연하였으며 2023년 12월 9일 첫 방영한 이영애 배우 주연 tvN 드라마 “마에스트라”에서 클래식 총괄 자문을 맡았다. 

대구국제방송교향악단 상임지휘자, 클래식 전문 연주단체 ‘아르티제’ 예술감독, 국내 민간 단체 최초로 말러 교향곡 전곡을 연주하는 프로젝트 ‘말러리안’ 예술감독 등으로서 분야를 가리지 않는 맹활약을 보여주고 있으며, 한국예술종합학교 겸임교수로서 후학 양성에도 힘쓰고 있다. 

국내 뿐 아니라 해외 무대에서도 새롭게 도약하고자 2022년에는 베를리너 심포니커와 암스테르담 콘세르트허바우에서, 2023년에는 북체코 필하모닉과 체코 드보르작홀에서, 그리고 슬로바키아 방송교향악단과 오스트리아 빈 무지크페라인에서 공연을 선보였으며, 이탈리아의 젊은 거장들로 구성된 ‘라파시오나타(L’appassionata)’ 오케스트라와 함께 ‘아르티제’ 오케스트라의 합동 공연을 국내 롯데콘서트홀에서 주최 및 지휘하였다.
